Hi, I’m Tegan
I’m a ‘forever foster’ girl and I came to BTRF because I had experienced some trauma to my spine and I was in a lot of pain and could hardly walk. BTRF kindly took me in. I will stay with my foster mum and dad forever because my treatment will be ongoing for the rest of my life. My amazing care team keep a very close eye on me to make sure I stay well.
Tegan is 7 years old and she came into the care of BTRF in 2023 in a very sorry state and in a lot of pain from an undiagnosed ruptured disc in her spine she is a different dog now thanks to her amazing care team and foster parents. She loves to play with her toys and cuddle up with her mum and dad. She also loves rummaging in her snuffle mats and boxes.
Tegan’s treatment will be ongoing and lifelong and may involve additonal investigations and supportve treatment, medication and a managed diet to ensure that she is able to feel her best and to keep her comfortable for the rest of her lovely life.
Your support will help pay for Tegan’s on-going medical support, her medication, supplements and specialist food whilst she lives her very best life with BTRF in foster care.

Hi everyone, Tegan here! Time for an update following Aunties Lisa and Suzanne’s Dynamic Dog Assessment!
Now they have put their very comprehensive report together, they have been chatting a lot with my lovely vet. Everyone agrees things are not quite right and although my coat, skin and general wellbeing is really good since I have been on my new diet and supplements, we do need to do a bit more investigating to see why I am still not quite feeling at my absolute best when I am walking and moving. So, a plan has been hatched!! I am going to have a full MOT.
While I am asleep lots of things are going to be checked – they will take some blood to make sure everything is functioning as it should, x rays to check all the bits that everyone is frowning at when they watch me move about, clean and polish my teeth to make sure they are all healthy and pearly white, check my ears and have a good feel of my tummy and the bits inside (bladder etc), and check my anal glands – yuk, glad I will be a sleep for that one!
Once that’s all done there won’t be many bits of me that won’t have been checked, then my amazing care team can have a natter between them to decide on the next plan to help me feel top of the world!

Hi Tegan supporters, it's time for an update on our little girl who has been in our care for a little over a year now. When she arrived, she was a poor wee mite in a very bad way – we suspected that she had experienced some sort of trauma to her spine. She could hardly walk, was clearly in a lot of pain and her general body condition was in a mess. In fact, as soon as she arrived in our care, she needed emergency veterinary attention.
Cutting a long story short you may recall that we had to set up a fundraiser to help pay for an urgent MRI scan. As ever all our supporters rose to the challenge and within days, we were able to arrange the scan. The scan showed that she had ruptured a disc in her spine and whilst it was touch and go as to whether she would require surgery with carefully managed rest and plenty of TLC (which she got in spades from her forever foster carers!), the consultant was happy that it had resolved.
Here we are now several months down the road and whilst she is so much better than she was, at a recent review with her lovely vet, Amy and her care team here at BTRF it was felt that she still wasn’t as comfy as she could be. This was also flagged up by Tegan’s amazing foster carers who feedback to us on a regular basis on her progress and share observations so we can assess how well she is doing – they know her so well! This is exactly what foster care is all about – working closely with us so we can all do the best for the foster dog.
We are going to repeat the scan to see if there have been any changes. But before we do this, we need to arrange a full posture and movement assessment (known as a Dynamic Dog assessment). These are carried out by very highly qualified and experienced canine behaviour and wellbeing practitioners who know exactly what to look for and how to recognise not only pain but also exactly where on the body the dog is experiencing that pain.
Once we are armed with this information, we will have a much more comprehensive report to share with Tegan’s orthopaedic consultant so that we can understand where we need to focus the scan and what treatment will be needed going forward.
We currently have the funds set aside for the Dynamic Dog assessment and the follow up investigations to help Tegan, thanks to the donations that have come in for her over the last few months. It is highly likely that her treatment will be ongoing and lifelong and may involve additional investigations and supportive treatment, medication and a managed diet to ensure that she is able to feel her best and to keep her comfortable for the rest of her little life.
