• Gift Aid

  • Boost your donation by 25p of Gift Aid for every £1 you donate!

    Gift Aid is reclaimed by the Bedlington Terrier Rescue Foundation from the tax you pay for the current tax year. Your name and address is needed to identify you as a current UK taxpayer.

    What is Gift Aid and how does it work?

    • Gift Aid is a government scheme which lets Bedlington Terrier Rescue Foundation (BTRF) claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give;
    • It does not cost you anything extra to sign up to Gift Aid. This is because as a UK taxpayer you have already paid tax on the money you’re donating;
    • Once BTRF receive your donation, we get the tax you originally paid back from HMRC to top up the donation.

    Who can Gift Aid?

    You can Gift Aid if:

    • you're a UK taxpayer;
    • the money you’re donating belongs to you;
    • the tax you pay in a year is at least equal to all your donations to any charity.

    How to sign up to Gift Aid

    • Online - complete our online Gift Aid form and tick the box that says 'Yes' to Gift Aid - You will receive a confirmation email with a copy of the form.
    • It's important to let us know if you stop paying tax or if you change your name or address, so that we can update our records;
    • If you’re a higher rate taxpayer (40% or above), you can claim the difference between the higher and basic rate on the total value of your donation;
    • If you’re retired, you can Gift Aid donations if you pay income tax or capital gains tax, as long as you've paid enough tax during the year to cover the amount we are reclaiming on your donations.  If you live on your pension alone and do not pay tax, you will not be eligible.

    In 2022, the amount BTRF made from Gift Aid on money donated by supporters was £1,200
