Profile on Little Mo...

In our last update, we shared that our forever foster girl, Little Mo had been referred to a
surgical specialist after a small lump was discovered inside her left ear canal.
Because Little Mo has experienced ongoing problems with this ear and finds repeated ear
examinations and treatment very stressful, the decision was made to proceed with a TECA/
        LBO procedure in April.

This surgery would remove the constantly problematic ear canal and the lump, with the
aim of resolving the problem as fully as possible in one procedure and giving her the best
        chance of lasting comfort.

We are very pleased to share that the surgery went well and the lump was completely
removed. It was sent away for analysis and, to everyone’s great relief, the results confirmed
that it was benign. The surgeon explained that the lump and ear canal was better removed
completely as these types of masses have a habit of returning.
Following surgery, Little Mo was temporarily unable to blink her left eye. This can often
happen after this type of procedure because the facial nerve runs very close to the ear
canal. Her eye needed regular lubrication and some extra care for a short while after the
surgery, including gently closing her eyelids for her to help keep the surface of the eye
        protected.
Although there was a possibility that this
could be a lasting effect of the surgery, we
are delighted that her eye is improving
well. Her progress continues to be
monitored carefully and she is receiving all
the support she needs from her dedicated
foster carers and her care team, both here
at BTRF and the veterinary team.
This was a significant procedure for
our special little girl, but it offered the
best opportunity to bring an end to the
        discomfort and repeated treatment
        associated with her poorly ear.
As always, we are incredibly grateful
to everyone who supports BTRF. Your
donations enabled us to offer this
specialist surgery and ongoing care for
Little Mo to enable her to live a much
        more comfortable life going forward.
